Hospital indemnity sales look promising despite the challenges afforded by healthcare reform, according to Eastbridge Consulting

AVON, CONNECTICUT, USA (February 5, 2015)

Although overall hospital indemnity sales have lagged over the last several years, the majority of carriers participating in Eastbridge’s Voluntary Hospital Indemnity Plans Spotlight™ Report have indicated that 2014 sales will markedly exceed or, at a minimum, meet their planned projections. However, because of the ever-evolving regulations associated with the product line and ACA implementation, understanding the process and knowing how to adapt the product accordingly will require vigilance and product flexibility.

The 2014 Voluntary Hospital Indemnity Plans Spotlight™ Report examines the current voluntary hospital indemnity market and profiles hospital indemnity products of leading carriers. Following are a few findings from the report:

  • Group plans are the dominant product form today, although a few carriers still provide both platforms.
  • Hospital indemnity plans typically use a more non-traditional definition for voluntary (not always 100% employee paid) as employers contribute a portion of the plans’ premiums more frequently than for other voluntary products.
  • Flexibility remains a “must” feature in hospital indemnity plans by offering multiple choices in overall benefit levels and specific benefit amounts along with optional riders and non-insurance benefits.

This year’s report includes 10 carrier participants representing 13 different hospital indemnity products. The report includes:

  • General market and carrier information
  • Detailed product features and benefits
  • Underwriting guidelines
  • Rates and premium structure
  • Commission and compensation
  • Current trends and challenges surrounding the hospital indemnity market

The cost of the report is $2,500. To purchase, call (860) 676-9633 or email info@eastbridge.com.
